Who we are *

Maximus, formerly known as “The Gym” was established in 1994 in the heart of downtown Ellensburg, Washington. Currently under its third owner, Mark O’neil.

At Maximus, we strive to make the members of our community feel welcome and pride ourselves in making our gym a place for people to connect and take care of their physical & mental health.

Outside of Maximus, we give back to our community by organizing and participating in many philanthropic events. Serving and enhancing the community of Maximus & Ellensburg is at the heart of what we do.

When becoming a member of Maximus, you will find we are devoted to our patrons wellness. We provide a state-of-the-art, 24 hour gym—offering a diverse range of high-quality equipment and expert-led classes, tailored to meet each persons unique health goals. Maximus has multiple personal trainers to educate, support and guide you in your workout regimen. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned athlete, Maximus is the gym for you!

Meet the Team

  • MICHAEL CASTILLO

    GENERAL MANAGER

    My name is Michael K. Castillo! I moved here from Las Vegas, Nevada. I’ve been working for Maximus Gym since 2017.  A graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with emphasis in Public Relations and Special Events. When I am not managing the gym, I am serving on the Governing Board and playing lead/rhythm guitar at Mercer Creek Church. My favorite part of Maximus includes the relationships we develop with our members and the community connections we continue to build.  My favorite lift is the Bench Press! In my free time, I love spending time with my family and seeking new adventures in Washington.

    Hi, I’m Claire! I moved to Ellensburg in 2024 & have been working out at Maximus since. When I am not working at the gym, I am at my full time job as a 911 dispatcher & reserve deputy for the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office. I love the sense of community & family we have here—I am fortunate to be a part of it. I love a good Bulgarian split squat and killer ab workout! Outside of working or working out, I enjoy spending time with my dogs & gardening.

    Hey all my name is Jesse Garoutte! I have been working at Maximus Gym for three years now and I have been coming here to workout since 2017. I am currently studying history and archaeology at Central Washington University! My favorite part of the gym is the community that we have built between us members! My favorite lift is back squat! In my free time, I enjoy learning languages and hiking!
